Robert A. M. Stern Architects
Although not a typical internship, this University of Miami design studio provided a wealth of professional experience. The unique project,
a design for the new campus of St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School in Coconut Grove, FL, was solely sponsored by and in conjunction with
Robert A. M. Stern Architects. The thirteen students of the studio were mentored weekly by visiting associates and partners from the esteemed firm
over the course of the semester.

During a trip to the firm's headquarters in New York City, the studio received a personal guided tour through the office. The procession had stops in every design department, where the more than 300-person firm has covered projects globally in fields of government, higher education, hospitality, retail, healthcare, mixed-use, residential, and more. However, the tour did not end there. The group traveled up and down the city, visiting a variety of their most esteemed NYC projects, including several of the firm's most prominent skyscrapers.
It was eye-opening to see their complete process, from initial concepts, to scale models, and how it all comes to life in a physical building.
There was even the opportunity to speak with Robert Stern himself on several occasions, including when he served as a juror at final reviews.
This studio all culminated in the selection of my design team's project as the representative for the class, and to be featured in the
Academic Portfolio section of the magazine, Classicist.
