G. P. Schafer Architect
A truly successful home design only occurs through harmonious collaboration, meticulous attention to detail, unwavering belief in the broader vision, and dedicated effort from a passionate group of talented team members. At G. P. Schafer Architect, the firm prides itself on creating timeless classical designs that enhance the enjoyment of home and life.
As one of roughly 35 architects and staff, a major advantage of working at the firm was the ease of communication and proximity to management, including founding principal, Gil Schafer. For nearly 20 years, Gil has run his own firm with a keen eye for award-winning design and beautiful creativity. He's created a thriving business model, honed over decades of knowledge and experience in the field, that's been of particular personal interest to absorb. I've learned from a master at his craft to think holistically, trust my instincts, act swiftly, and most importantly, never settle.
Yet, all the awards and captivating design would not be possible without a collection of esteemed and gratified clients. It was my job to bring their dreams to life, through an extensive combination of personal renderings, specialized presentations, and intimate booklets. I also positively contributed to the constant stream of communication, having participated in numerous client meetings and handled their countless phone calls. It's satisfying to earn that trust, and play my part in that mutually beneficial relationship.
Architecture is a process of collaboration. To create something truly special, the directory of team members extends far beyond the walls of a single office. It takes a massive group of talented professionals, who all bring their own unique set of skills and expertise to the project. As the architect, it's imperative to guide all parties together toward a common vision, while successfully balancing the budget . I consistently oversaw the teamwork of a lengthy number of consultants, including interior decorators, landscape architects, engineers, contractors, city officials, and many more highly skilled specialists.
As I continued to grow, I assumed more responsibility and was tasked with the sole completion for entire sections of the construction drawing set. Of course, the drawings are constantly reviewed and coordinated, but I've taken a leading role in supervising any number of individual sets including plans, elevations, sections, windows and doors, and custom profiles for various projects. In one special situation, combining all of my previous experience, I took charge of the entire design and drawing set for a charming guest cottage.
The process to officially receive the title of architect is grueling and rigorous, requiring an accredited degree, years of approved experience, and of course, a number of industry standardized exams. As the first one in the office to pass each of the six, recently updated Architecture Registration Exam divisions, I acted passionately to help others do the same and claw closer to licensure. It started by emailing out extensive breakdowns on the application process, study materials, and exam strategy. Yet, over time, having received my license, this evolved into a rewarding leadership role with routine, interactive presentations to interns and junior staff on the entire architectural license process.
Ultimately, a project is only as successful as the people behind it. G. P. Schafer Architect is home to a distinguished set of skilled, driven, and compassionate collaborators. I'm proud to be a part of that remarkable family.
